There are nights when the phone is left on the bedside table, or nights that are sometimes spent staying late at the office, to be tirelessly available or to resolve the usual unforeseen events.
A subagency needs to issue urgently. A rate appears on one channel and not another. A payment requires verification. A business rule seems clear until someone actually has to enforce it.
Those who work in aerial consolidation know this feeling well. It's the silent responsibility of knowing the network continues to operate even when the office is empty, the lights are off, and the day, at least formally, should be over.
The problem is that growth doesn't sleep.
As new subagencies join, PCCs increase, GDSs multiply, NDC connections arrive, low-cost fares are added, and broadcasting continues around the clock, the nature of the work changes. It's no longer just about distributing content or finding the right flight. It's about holding together a complex ecosystem without losing visibility, margins, and security.
At first, everything seems manageable. A new portal, a new connection, an additional rule, an additional access. Each element becomes absorbed into the routine. Then, almost without realizing it, the network crosses a threshold.
The sources to coordinate are becoming too numerous to be managed through human memory. The number of operators is increasing. Commercial rules are differing. Procedures vary based on the agency, carrier, passenger type, payment method, and issuing market.
At that point, complexity is no longer a consequence of growth. It becomes the main problem.
And that's often where sleepless nights begin.
There's no need for major incidents. Small, recurring uncertainties every day are enough: a payment method used where it shouldn't be, a search performed with inconsistent criteria, a duplicate transaction, a pricing rule applied differently by two operators, a check performed too late.
Every step left open to interpretation increases risk. Each separate system creates a gap between one piece of information and the next. Every manual verification depends on someone's attention, experience, and availability.
ADM risk often arises precisely in these spaces. Not from a lack of expertise, but from an overly fragmented operating environment. An environment where information exists, but it doesn't always come together at the right time.
The modern consolidator therefore needs more than just content. He needs direction.
A management system capable of bringing together GDSs, NDC connections, low-cost content, airlines, payment systems, operating rules, and the agency network into a coherent vision. A structure that allows for the upstream configuration of what each operator can do, according to which criteria, and through which authorizations.
When the strategy is defined before the operation, the work changes.
The consolidator can determine which carriers to query, which Passenger Type Codes to use, which search criteria to apply, and which rules to make available to each agency. The operator doesn't have to reconstruct the correct route each time. They can quickly apply pre-built logic, compare multiple sources, and work with more consistent results.
Reducing the burden of complexity on people.
The best technology isn't the one that shows everything. It's the one that shows everyone what they need, when they need it, leaving the consolidator to govern the rules.
The same principle applies to emissions.
Auditing shouldn't mean intervening after an anomaly. It should mean preventing incorrect transactions before they cause consequences. Checking payment methods, agency permits, transaction consistency, and potentially risky behaviors should be a natural part of the workflow.
Effective control doesn't slow down operations. It makes them safer and faster.
Each agency can have customized access, dedicated policies, authorized payment methods, and limits consistent with their profile. The consolidator maintains a comprehensive view, while the agencies operate independently within a clear framework.
Notifications alert you to what needs attention. Reports make it clear what's happening. Rules are enforced without depending on a phone call, a message, or the manager's presence.
The platform stops being a simple booking tool and becomes a system for analysis, planning and control.
An infrastructure for governing
A single environment can simplify the management of issuance, markups, fees, and payments. It can eliminate the need to constantly switch between portals. It can simplify operator training and reduce reliance on cryptic commands, without sacrificing the professional depth required by airline ticketing professionals.
Simplicity, in this sector, is not superficiality, but well-organized complexity.
When processes become more natural, people make fewer mistakes. When rules are centrally configured, the network operates more consistently. When costs follow actual production, technology supports growth rather than hindering it.
And when the ecosystem is extensible, it can evolve along with the business: train ticketing, hotel reservations, new integrations, customized features, and services developed based on the network's real needs.
Competitive advantage no longer comes solely from access to a tariff.
It comes from the ability to govern the entire path that leads to that emission.
Know who's operating. With what permissions. Through which PCC. With what form of payment. According to which trading rules. With what margin and at what level of risk.
For years, many consolidators accepted the idea that growth inevitably meant more complexity, more manual oversight, and more personal responsibility.
But a growing network shouldn't keep those who govern it awake at night.
It should become more visible, more consistent, and more predictable.
No more sleepless nights wondering whether a procedure was applied correctly, whether an issuance exposes the PCC, or whether a subagency is using the authorized form of payment.
Consolidation can become more manageable, safer, more efficient, and more profitable.
On one condition: that technology doesn't simply add another tool, but truly transforms many systems, many rules, and many agencies into a single governable ecosystem.
